I'd tell them I was Canadian...

Today, I was walking around near Central Station when I heard a series of loud chants. Naturally, I decided to head toward whatever people were getting worked up about (Swedes don't carry guns like Texans; in fact, pepper spray is illegal).

After I starting shooting the first photos, I found out that the Iraqi national football team won the Asian Cup when they defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final match. The crowd grew very, very fast because Iraqis were running from all directions to join in the celebration (only one hour elapsed between the first and last photos).

I really enjoyed taking the photos at the end; mostly because people continually asked what newspaper I was working for.

I just found out that I can blog images from the camera on my cell phone. I had a few minutes before the evening subway arrived so I took a few photos of the subway station to give the readers an idea of the level of style/fashion everything in Stockholm possesses.

I love the "green running man" signs pointing to the exits, even better, I like that the emergency exits has the green running man painted over the entire door.

Hello all!

A few people have been interested in what Stockholm is like (I should know, I've been here a whole week :P) so I thought I'd post a few photos of the neighborhood in which I live.

If you any questions or want more info on something just post a comment. I love comments because it makes me think people are interested in my incessant ramblings.

Just to let you know, if you ever want to visit, I walked everywhere in these photos within 10 mins, to give you an idea of how dense of this part of the city is (all these photos were taken within a half of a mile - at most). Later, I'll post some photos of the more scenic and historic areas of the city but this will give you an idea of what my daily commute is like. On the other end of the commute, I get off the Metro right at the University and walk less than a quarter of a mile to the lab.

This is the building I live in and I captured a nice Audi turning a corner in front for the other fellow car buffs out there:

From what I gather, I got really lucky when I found this room for rent. It's about one block from Medborgarplasten (citizen's sqaure) which has a movie theater, outdoor bars and restaurants and several clubs.

I took a few photos of the area...
I find it funny that the new Die Hard movie being released in Sweden simply as "Die Hard 4.0."



Here are a few photos of the square where you can see the stores, outdoor bars and restaurants, and really nice open area for sunny days (it was slightly overcast when I took these photos)...






This one totally cracks me up because 7-Eleven is everywhere in Stockholm (I believe there are over 50 stores in the city)


There are tons of outdoor fastfood stands (which are great for a late night snack)...



Here is a nice church right next to the square:
All of the streets of the surrounding area are lined with shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, etc... (from what I gather there's a very active nightlife in this part of the city)...


This is the entrance I use every morning for the Metro. I took this photo for a few reasons. First, Pizza Hut seems to be everywhere over here and they're much nicer than those in the US. Second, I thought the advert was funny. And finally, could I have moved to an area of the city with a longer and more difficult name to pronounce?


Finally, I had to take a photo of this warning sign. The Swedes appear to be very safety-oriented, but I almost bust out laughing every time I see this one:
